LakeWalk (2007) is an interactive video installation. The goal of the public art project is to celebrate walking, as opposed to driving, in the urban environment of Lakeview in Chicago, IL.
At the beginning of the evening, the video projection shows only live images of the feet of passerby. As soon as 10 people have passed, the video shifts to reveal a sliver of lake at the bottom. During this transition, a screen appears that tells the walkers how much carbon monoxide they have prevented from entering the atmosphere by choosing to walk to their destination instead of driving. As the evening progresses, more and more of the lake slides into view. The visual goal is to have the lake assume the dominant position in the projection, not the footprint of the passerby
